Smoking from a pipe gives you the ability to enjoy the full flavor of your favorite herb. Unlike rolling a joint, smoking from a pipe is much easier and quicker. You simply break up your weed, put in the desired amount, and then light it up and puff away. Although most people put a lot of effort into finding the right pipe or bong that suits their needs, they fail to take into account how important the pipe screen is.
A pipe screen does more than stop the weed from going into the pipe; it is also responsible for the airflow that allows for nice even hits. You also have to keep in mind the amount of heat it can endure and you want to make sure that it doesn’t release any toxins while burning. In order to make the search for a good quality pipe screen a little easier, we’ve reviewed some of the best on the market.
Find out which one is best for you!
Page Overview
Brass, despite its slightly less appealing color, is a much better option than steel when it comes to durability and sturdiness. This offering comes with a handy metal case, so you could easily repurpose it for an infinite number of your smoking accessories.
Strength In Reliability
As mentioned, brass is an excellent choice for your pipe screen. It is strong, dependable, and in this case, excellent value for money. It doesn’t burn or become misshapen as easily as steel, and it will last a remarkably long time for the cost. These are a tiny bit thicker than standard screens, giving them an extra layer of durability.
Fantastic Value
Speaking of cost, the value of this 200 piece set is amazing. Combined with the case, the price you pay for these sturdy screens is hardly going to break the bank. With spending being a concern for a large percentage of the population these days, any bargain is a great bargain!
Pros
Cons
With smoking weed becoming more and more accepted (and legal!), give someone you love a nice little stocking-filler this year. The honeycomb style of these glass screens not only looks good but is practical and keeps going when metal options have long since broken down.
Reusability
The best thing about glass, as opposed to steel or brass, is the fact that you can reuse them. These screens are easily cleaned and can be used again and again with a long-lasting guarantee. There are no chemicals, they’re non-toxic and safe to use from the first puff to the last.
Surprising Worth
When you look at the price of these screens, you might be a little wary. Don’t be; these will last you longer than a bucket full of more malleable materials used in pipe screens.
Pros
Cons
Another set of brass screens that offer supreme value for money and a tin thrown in for convenience! You’ll be able to use these until they’re red hot without any burnoff or bad taste.
Little Details
Within the storage tin, you will find two separate ziplock bags, each containing 100 screens. The extra thickness and resistance offered means each screen lasts longer. The tin itself is also shipped inside a heavy-duty ziplock bag.
Ease Of Use
When it comes to standard measurements, pipe screens can be hit or miss. Krendr makes sure that their screens are perfectly manufactured to fit your pipe to make sure all you have to worry about is smoking.
Pros
Cons
Another product with a case to hold them! Stainless steel screens can have their issues, but the Ruilida bowls allow for a nice fit while keeping your portion control in check. You won’t get as much in your pipe but that may not be the worst thing as these screens give you a smooth smoke for multiple uses.
Nice Design
The bowl-shaped screen can be a bit tricky to fit into a pipe, but the flat bottom makes this product a snug fit for your smoking needs. Once you have used them a few times, they sit perfectly in the pipe, meaning you won’t be constantly concerned that you aren’t getting the proper protection from any harshness.
High-Quality Steel
As mentioned above, steel tends to wear out quicker than other popular materials. No need to worry here, though. There’s something about the shape and the fit of these screens, they just last longer than you would expect! With the 30 pack you pay less than a quarter per bowl: not too shabby when they perform this well!
Pros
Cons
Gold Lion Gear has been in the smoking industry for over ten years, but they make more than just pipe screens. They are a company that believes in conservation and protecting the wildlife and make a number of other products that are built to take on the harsh conditions of nature.
Made in the USA
With so many companies outsourcing in order to save a buck, you can feel good buying this brand because you know that you will be helping support other Americans. These screens were specially designed to improve your smoking experience.
Build
The screens are made of premium quality brass which can withstand very high temperatures. This means that you don’t have to worry about it starting to burn and release toxins while you smoke.
Cost and Value
Not only are these one of the most popular brands on the market, but they are also the most affordable. You get 100 screens in a pack and the universal size ensures that they will fit your pipe perfectly.
Pros
Cons
These screens come in SUPA JK packaging, which means they are easier to form to your pipe, bong or hookah. It sucks when the screen is too stiff and just sits on top of the bowel; it’s a great way to lose some of your weed.
Warranty
These brass pipe screens are not only made in the USA, but they offer a manufacturer warranty which is upheld by the North American Traders, so you know you are getting a good quality product.
Reputation
This product has been a top seller around the country and has made an impact at music festivals, farmer’s markets, local trade events, and local smoke shops. It’s always good to buy from a reputable supplier, especially if it’s something that you might inhale.
Cost and Value
You get fifty high-quality brass screens that were made to help you enjoy smoking with less cleaning. They are also made to last so you don’t have to replace the screen as often.
Pros
Cons
Beamer has only been in the business since 2010, but they have quickly grown into a company that sells to over fifty-seven countries. They specialize in smoking accessories and products, plus pride themselves on making quality products.
Design
The pipe screens are made of mesh with a thicker gauge than most screens, which gives you stronger tensile strength and ensures that the screen will also last longer. Fortunately, this doesn’t do anything to prevent the free flow of smoke and air through the pipe.
Growing Company
This company was started in a basement in Detroit Michigan only a few years ago and now sells products worldwide. The fact that it is growing as fast as it is leads us to believe that most of their customers are very satisfied with their smoking products.
Cost and Value
They come in the middle of the pack on this list as far as price goes, but are still pretty inexpensive. These are easy to use and made to last so you don’t have to throw it away after just one use.
Pros
Cons
These stainless steel pipe screens are made to last longer in the heat without breaking down. You’ll notice the clean taste right away compared to other screens that leave a bad aftertaste.
Design
They measure at .625, which makes them great for smaller pipes that you can easily carry around with you. The extra-fine 60 count mesh screens ensure that you get all the smoke and air you need without inhaling hot ash as well.
Quality
These are made of high-quality stainless steel that holds up to the heat better than most brass screens. The company is so confident in their products that they also offer an exclusive money-back guarantee.
Cost and Value
These cost a little more than the brass screens but also last longer than most as well. You get 50 in a container, which keeps you going for quite a while before having to order more.
Pros
Cons
The great thing about glass screens is that they are made of natural material and you don’t have to worry about inhaling any chemicals. These are the best choice if you really want to taste your bud.
Design
Another great thing about glass is that it absorbs heat and blocks lighter fluid from getting inhaled. It also makes for cooler smoke compared to metal screens. They fit most pipes and do a great job of keeping the bud out of the stem.
Container
It is also worth mentioning that this product comes with a BPA free, breakage proof container to keep all of your glass screens safe. It certainly comes in handy when you’re trying to keep your smoke accessories organized.
Cost and Value
These are surprisingly one of the lowest cost items on the list. Not only do you get 100 pieces, but you also get a handy container that can be reused for other storage purposes.
Pros
Cons
As stated before, the natural material glass screens are made of makes it so you don’t have to worry about inhaling any chemicals. If tasting the true flavor of your buds, these are what’s for you. Although they are a bit more breakable, they don’t give off any external tastes and are made from high-quality heat-absorbing glass. This means they won’t be burned up as easy as some of those standard bendable metal screens.
Design
Featuring a honeycomb design, these screens have the ability to keep your bud in the bowl and out of your pipe and mouth. Nothing is worse than sucking down your bud and eating a mouthful of it. When you use one of these screens, it keeps your bud where it belongs while also being harder to clog up due to its holes being a bit bigger than a standard screen. This means your hits will be more productive and less of a hassle.
Pros
Cons
These are great for those deep bowls that are harder to lay your screen in right for. With a 19mm steel ball pipe screen, they leave the guessing game out and you don’t have to struggle so much about putting your screen in properly. After all, you don’t want to waste your tobacco or bud because your screen didn’t cover the hole well enough, do you?
Design
When you have a smoking device that is deep or narrow, you may not be able to adjust your screen as well with, this is where the ball like design comes in handy! The Steel Ball Pipe screen not only makes for a convenient addition to your bowl, pipe, or bong, but it allows a free flow of smoke for a productive hit. All the while keeping dirty ash from getting into your mouth and lungs. Drop the screen ball in and enjoy your smoke!
This specific selection of ball screens even comes with a decorative metal tin that you can keep your collection of screens in!
Pros
Cons
These are great screens for any pipe or bong smoker! Being about the size of a pencil eraser, these high-quality titanium screens are known for being the longest-lasting on the market. Because they are made of titanium, they are able to withstand high temperatures without producing harsh chemicals. These are great for bowls that have smaller holes but need great smoke flow. They are perfect for when you need something that will last a long time and are made thicker. As a result, they are some of the most durable screens out there.
Design
With an 8mm honeycomb design, these screens may be small but allow for optimal smoke flow. Each one features nineteen holes for a better smoking experience. Being easy to clean is also a plus, and they are great at keeping ash or your bud from working its way inside your pipe. After all, you just want the smoke, not everything else. Otherwise using a screen would be pointless!
Pros
Cons
These screens are unlike any we (and quite possibly you) have seen before, but come to find out, are a rather simple design. Being 5/8 of an inch at its biggest part, these spiraled stainless steel screens are high temperature resistant and fit in most bowls or pipes. These are great for someone who likes to keep their bowls a bit cleaner and also offer great smoke flow.
Design
With a spiraled design, these screens also feature a little metal handle that can be used to pick up the screen and stir when needed. Each one features a screw-like twist at the bottom that fits great and enables a better smoking experience. They are very easy to clean but can be a bit in the way sometimes, although they do their job of keeping ash from working its way inside of your pipe. It’s a pretty cool design and worth trying out!
Pros
Cons
Made from all-natural materials, these ceramic screens can withstand high temperatures and are super easy to clean! Being 8mm, they don’t take up much room and are a great addition to any smoker’s toolbox. These are also great for someone who likes to keep their bowls a bit cleaner and offer for a great smoke flow. You don’t have to constantly interrupt your smoke session to clean these screens out either. They don’t clog easily and when they finally do can be unclogged with ease.
Optimal Smoke Flow
Because there are six decent sized holes in these ceramic honeycomb screens, smoking through them, even multiple hits, will have you feeling like you just puffed on a fresh, clean bowl! Temperature and optimal smoke flow are important when choosing what type of screen to use. Be sure to keep that in mind when you are searching for that perfect one.
Pros
Cons
For the ultimate smoking experience, you want to make sure that you have the best smoking accessories, and that starts with the right pipe screen. With so many different varieties and brands of screens, it can be difficult to know which ones are worth it and which ones can be hazardous to your health. Choosing the right one also depends on what type and size pipe you are using. Hopefully, the list above has helped you find what you are looking for.
If you regularly smoke using pipes you will be aware of the importance of a good screen. Most of the time, the same screen can be used for your water bong or even your glass one-hitter tube. A screen is crucial for keeping ash and your bud from filling up the inside of your pipe, as well as your lungs. No one wants a mouthful of ash and their bud to be inhaled. That’s what is great about screens, they filter the ash from your bud. Picking the right screen for a specific bowl can sometimes be a bit difficult if your pipe is different than the ordinary but thankfully most screens are made in universal sizes and designs. Be sure you know how much room you have inside of your bowl as well as how big the hole inside is. This will help you choose what size screen is best for you, the first time.
There are many different kinds of screens available on the market today. Deciding which material you want your screen to be made of is a great step in the right direction, after learning the measurements of your pipe. There are many different types of materials available. Some are made of intricate borosilicate glass, some heavy-duty metals, and then there are screens made of ceramic. If you prefer a cleaner taste that offers a more evenly distributed heat, you may prefer to use a ceramic or glass screen, as they are usually made from 100% natural materials and are good for the planet as well. If you prefer a more classic type of screen, or a screen you don’t have to risk breaking, then metal is definitely the way to go. Some metal screens are made of a flexible mesh that looks like the screen you may see inside of a faucet head or screen door. Others are made of a thicker, heavy-duty metal that is capable of lasting for years but are not as customizable. If you have a bowl that needs a more customizable or specific shaped screen, the thinner, flexible, metal is the screen you should try first. You can even cut those screens to size. Don’t forget, you will also want to know how much heat you need your screen to be able to handle.
Although you don’t have to use a screen, it is definitely recommended to keep ash and remains out of your pipe or mouth. This is why choosing the right screen is important to both your lungs and your weed!
Brass Screens – These are one of the original screen materials used and have been used for years in tobacco pipes as well as other smoking devices. However, Brass doesn’t withstand heat for a long period of time. In fact, the zinc and copper they are made of have low melting points. This means they may last for a few good smoking sessions, but will eventually degrade over time. You may have to replace your screen or even fish it out of your pipe after you have used it too many times.
Stainless Steel Screens – These screens are a lot alike the brass screens. However, they are made of the same material as your household pans and pots so they can withstand being heated up and cooled down multiple times. However, these screens also degrade over time.
Titanium Screens – These screens hold up really well! Titanium is capable of handling very high temperatures and handles well being cooled back down. They are made of very durable metal and the titanium screen is unbreakable. Expect these to last longer than any other screen on the market.
Glass Screens – These screens are great because they really allow you to taste what you are smoking. They are pretty durable for use in many pipes and bongs because the glass can withstand heat and thermal shock. As long as you aren’t too rough with these screens and you avoid dropping them, they can last you as long as the titanium screens. The only downside is, they are made to be a bit more specific and it can be hard to find the right one to fit your pipe just right.
Quartz or Ceramic Screens – These screens are a lot like the glass screens, just made with pure silica instead of including additional additives. They are great for evenly distributing the heat over your smoke and can last a long time as well (as long as you are careful with them). They are breakable and many are also made to be a specific size or shape.
This isn’t hard to do at all! If you clean up the resin and residue off of your screens in between use, just like with your pipe, they will last a lot longer. Also, when your screen is clean, it can allow for more smoke flow and a better smoking experience altogether. This is because you will be able to truly enjoy the flavor of your bud, rather than the resin left behind from past smoke sessions.
Picking a screen really doesn’t have to be as hard as it sounds. If you plan on putting a lot of heat to your screen, being a bit rough with it, or even deciding on whether or not you prefer your screen to be used for the long term is easy once you know what type of screens are available. If you want a great smoking experience, void of ash and lost weed, try out a screen today and see just how great they are for you and your pipe!
